about our meetings

The prisms network is expanding and we are recruiting. We are looking for single (or former single) mothers around Australia to become volunteer prisms area coordinators for meetings in their local areas. The area coordinator will be the designated contact person for all single mums attending prisms meetings (and mums who are interested in attending meetings) in their town or city. Coordinators willl also act as a point of contact on meeting days.

If you would like to know more, pelase contact admin@prisms.com.au

Many single mothers experience loneliness and sadness in the months following their decision or their partner’s decision to separate. Often they feel isolated from their existing social or family network, and they may want to branch out and meet other single mothers and forge new bonds with women in situations similar to theirs. That is where prisms can help.

The prisms network will be starting regular meetings in every city around Australia in 2007. At those meetings, single mothers will be able to bring their children or come alone to share their struggles and their experiences and hear other people’s stories. We want prisms to be the portal through which single mothers around Australia find inner strength, make new friends and find long-term support.

Our meetings network is growing but it's a slow process. We are discovering that each single mother has different needs - some of you want to meet during the week while your children are at school, some prefer to get together in the evenings, while others want to meet on the weekends and bring their children along for some social interaction.  We want to accommodate EVERYBODY and you can help us!

All you need to do is email us with your registration of interest. As soon as we hear from you we'll send you out a form and you can send it back to us with all the details about when and where you'd like to meet other single mums in your area. As our office is in Melbourne, we'll be asking for volunteers to act as points of contact for each town and city. If you would like to be a local coordinator (it's a big title and we'll definitely appreciate your efforts, but really all it involves is helping us keep everyone in your local area informed about what prisms is doing and where the meetings are held or if special outings are being arranged in your local community.) It's all on the form we will send you once you email us and tell us you want to be part of the prisms network! If you don't want to commit to being a local coordinator, that's fine too. We still want you to come along to our meetings in your local area.

Please contact us if you are interested in joining one of our meetings by emailing us at meetings@prisms.com.au
