introduction
prisms has gathered various links to internet sites that we hope will be of use to you, either in the immediate aftermath of your separation or further down the track as you adjust to life as a single parent. You might even find them useful if you are considering separation but want to be aware of the processes involved before you make the final decision to end your relationship. There are many excellent resources avaliable to help single parents and we have gathered their contact details here in one location. In our resource centre, you'll be able to learn (among other practical things) more about what government assistance is available to single parents, how you can get parenting payments through Centrelink and how to help your children through your separation and divorce. We've also included links to support organsations like Lifeline and Relationships Australia, in case you need to talk to a trained counsellor about what you are experiencing. There is also information specifically to help women in crisis situations, as well as a vast array of articles, links and research about every aspect of single parenthood and divorce.
We know that single parents experience ups and downs after they separate - it is normal and healthy to react in a variety of ways to such a momentous event in your life. Not only are you dealing with your own reactions to your relationship ending, but you also have to consider your children and how best to safeguard their emotional wellbeing. With all the conflicting emotions and added pressures separation may bring to your life, we know that with the right information and support, the transition from partnered to single parent will be easier.
We have included what we consider to be the most important sites, however the list is not exhaustive and we will be adding new links, articles and reviews every week. If you would like to suggest a useful link that does not appear on this website, please email us at suggestlink@prisms.com.au and check for our weekly updates.
